JUSTICE Tšeliso Monapathi has postponed to 6 February 2020 a case in which Acting Chief Justice ‘Maseforo Mahase’s husband Thabiso and son, Teboho, are accused of robbing M3 million meant for old age pensions. This after the Mahases’ lawyer, Advocate Clark Taelo Poopa, told the court that the matter had not yet been allocated hearing dates.
The duo was arrested on 13 December 2017 in connection with M3 million cash which disappeared from the Mafeteng Post Office in December 2016.
Adv Poopa said the hearing dates could not be set in the absence of the prosecutors.
“We cannot set hearing dates due to the absence of the crown counsel (prosecutors) and we have not yet been furnished with witness statements, therefore we ask that the matter be postponed to 6 February 2020 for mention,” Adv Poopa said.
Justice Monapathi then ordered the accused to return to court on 6 February 2020. It is not clear why the State was not represented at the hearing. But the matter was listed on the roll to have been head on Monday. However, in the judge’s diary, it was listed to be head on Tuesday.
